Weekend Getaway Recap: What Happened on My Trip

Hello, lovelies — I enjoyed a refreshing weekend getaway! I had the privilege of attending a life-changing conference created especially for moms. It felt wonderful to leave the house for a short trip to a nearby city and connect with more than 2,500 other moms. Mr N. took great care of the girls while I was away, and that allowed me to fully engage in the experience. I managed to snap a photo in the conference hall—

The event was organized by Hearts at Home under the leadership of Jill Savage and this year’s theme was “Unleash Your Superpower.” The program ran Friday and Saturday. Friday was Mom’s Night Out, where I heard one of the funniest speakers I’ve encountered: Ken Davis. He’s a Christian comedian who believes Christians should be joyful, not solemn-faced. I laughed until I cried — his humor and perspective were a delightful reminder to embrace joy.

Saturday was the main conference with multiple workshops. Here are some key lessons I took away:

1. Speak your children’s love languages. Dr. Gary Chapman, author of The 5 Love Languages, emphasized that meeting each child’s emotional needs in their preferred language builds strong, lasting relationships.

2. Happiness is a skill you can learn and practice.

3. In a wireless world, intentionally connect with your kids: turn off phones, tablets and the TV, and spend focused time talking and listening.

4. Tough moments don’t make you a bad mother — they’re part of the journey.

5. To unleash your superpower, stay connected to the ultimate source of strength: God. Relying on yourself alone will leave you drained.

What moved me most was the down-to-earth manner of the speakers. Seeing Dr. Gary Chapman in person after reading his book years ago was inspiring. After his session he was approachable at the book table; I was able to speak with him and get books autographed for Mr N. There was no stiff protocol or distance — the speakers were accessible, and the event encouraged attendees to meet those who inspired them.

The venue was full of fun and uplifting signage. With so many moms in one place, bathroom lines were long, and the playful signs made the wait enjoyable—there was a humorous, lighthearted spirit everywhere.

I captured several of the creative and encouraging messages posted around the venue:

One of the funniest finds was a sign posted on a bathroom door that offered tongue-in-cheek advice — it gave everyone a good laugh and lightened the mood even more.

Here’s a photo of me with the lovely group of women who attended together. We had a wonderful time supporting and encouraging one another.

My ‘heroes’ are showing the effects of my baby’s sudden weaning so I could attend the conference. I had to do it to be away for the weekend. Surprisingly, my little one has been calmer since. That tummy has inspired me to start a 30-day smoothie challenge to trim some extra weight. I adore these women — it was nourishing to spend time with them and to hear their wise, encouraging stories.

On Sunday my oldest sang at her school church and delivered a beautiful performance. Later at our church, the message encouraged us to seize every chance to do good, especially within the family of faith. I want to be a blessing to others and to reflect God’s love through my actions and attitude. This week I feel renewed in my love for God and am seeking to follow the Spirit’s leading in each step I take.

I hope your week was wonderful and that this post brings you a bit of encouragement. Thank you for reading. Kisses!
