A Natural Energy Drink

Switchel, sometimes called haymaker’s punch, is made from water, raw apple cider vinegar, molasses, and ginger. It was a common refreshment in the 18th and early 19th centuries—long before processed sweeteners, artificial colors, and canned drinks became widespread.

Workers often drank Switchel during hot days in the fields because it refreshed and replenished electrolytes. Today it remains a great option when you want more than plain water to rehydrate after gardening, workouts, or any tiring activity.

Homemade Switchel is inexpensive, easy to prepare, and delicious. The ingredients supply minerals such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, and iron to help restore your body’s balance. Many people also find Switchel soothing for digestion.
