Monday Coffee Break: Thanksgiving Recipes, Tips & Conversation

Do you have your coffee cup? I do!

Welcome to this week’s Monday Coffee Break. It’s the week of Thanksgiving, and I’ve put together a special Thanksgiving edition to celebrate!

All month many of us have set aside specific time to practice gratitude. Whether through a social media challenge or quiet personal moments, this season has encouraged an attitude of gratitude. That thankfulness culminates this week in a grand feast with family and friends—the people nearest to our hearts whom we cherish and honor.

Before we dive into the food (psst! I have TONS of Thanksgiving ideas for you), let’s talk about the deeper purpose of giving thanks.

Did you know an attitude of gratitude offers lasting benefits beyond the holiday? Giving thanks strengthens and deepens your relationship with Jesus Christ and builds your faith.

In a busy world, that kind of reminder is something many of us earnestly need.

3 Ways Being Thankful Can Change You

– Being Thankful Changes Your Focus.

Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts, for “out of the heart flow the springs of life.” What we choose to focus on fills our hearts and shapes what we think, say, and do. When we purposely focus on the blessings in our lives, we fill our hearts with positive, life-giving things instead of negativity. That simple shift brings contentment, joy, and hope.

– Being Thankful Stirs Up Your Hope.

Waking up each day full of hope is a gift, and daily thankfulness helps cultivate that hope. The author of 2 Peter says his letters are meant to stir up our minds by reminding us—remembrance is powerful. When we remember God’s past faithfulness and the good things He has provided, we recall our personal stories and testimonies. Those testimonies can silence the Accuser and build hope for the future by reminding us of how God has shown up before.

– Being Thankful Is Tied to Your Faith.

Thankfulness and faith are deeply connected and cannot be separated. Colossians 2:6–7 encourages believers to continue living in Christ—rooted and built up, established in faith, and overflowing with thankfulness. In practical terms, being rooted in Christ and established in what we’ve learned about Him allows thankfulness to build us up, strengthening both hope and faith.

Being thankful in every situation can feel challenging, and sometimes it may not make sense at first. Still, there are always things—however small—that we can give thanks for. Once we begin cultivating a genuine attitude of gratitude, it often becomes a lasting habit. After all, living with contentment and hope is hard to beat.
