Introducing our new mini episode series: a small, after-dinner treat to carry you through the week. The Dream Dinner Party is short, charming and focused on a single simple question. Each episode features a different guest who imagines their perfect dinner party — four guests, living or departed, and the reasons they would be invited.

Guests guide us through the menu they would serve, the drinks they’d pour and the atmosphere they’d create. It’s an intimate snapshot of how food, company and conversation come together to make memorable nights.

Meet Skye McAlpine

This week we sit down with the queen of dinner parties, Skye McAlpine. If you follow her on Instagram, you’ll know her kitchen is a dream: a long flowing table, beautiful plates and crockery piled in a dresser, and carefully considered styling everywhere you look. We recorded in her kitchen, where she greeted us with freshly made cakes that were, unsurprisingly, delicious.

Skye’s third book, A Table Full of Love, published earlier this year, explores the connection between food and love. Her love language is clearly expressed through hospitality and the way she uses food to bring people together — a theme we explore in this episode.

What Makes a Dinner Party?

There is no single right way to host a dinner party. It can be a relaxed takeaway shared with close friends or an elaborate occasion aimed at impressing new acquaintances. The phrase “dinner party” holds many meanings, and in our view it embraces every style and scale — from casual gatherings to formal affairs.

In The Dream Dinner Party format, the focus is on storytelling: why these guests matter, what dishes would sit on the table and what drinks would complement the meal. It’s a reminder that hospitality is as much about intent and connection as it is about aesthetics.
