There’s a unique comfort in a drink that’s both warm and boozy. This easy Irish coffee delivers that cozy feeling—rich coffee spiked with whiskey and crowned with a silky Baileys cream. It’s perfect for a quiet night reading on the couch and elegant enough to offer after dinner when friends stop by.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

  • Coffee: Use strong, freshly brewed hot coffee. A dark roast works best because it stands up to the whiskey and cream—Sumatra or another bold blend is a good choice.
  • Irish Whiskey: Jameson is the classic go-to for Irish coffee; Bushmills or another smooth Irish whiskey can be used if that’s what you have.
  • Brown Sugar: Don’t skip the brown sugar. It adds flavor and increases the coffee’s density so the whipped cream is more likely to float on top rather than sink.
  • Heavy Cream: Keep it ice-cold before whipping so it reaches the right texture quickly and holds up on top of the coffee.

Bartender Trick

Combine the Bailey’s and cold heavy cream in a cocktail shaker and shake until foamy. That texture helps the cream float neatly on top of the coffee.
